Community connections
Brentford School for Girls prides itself on being at the heart of the local community and we work with several local primary schools and contribute to local events whenever possible. We are keen to build links with local businesses and participate in local events where possible.
We have regular events which involve successful people from the community to speak with students about further education and career options to enable the girls to benefit from their advice and experience. The careers fair, industry days and careers day enable businesses in the area to speak with students and build links between the schools to offer opportunities to bother the students and the businesses. In addition, all year nine students experience a university visit as part of activities week.
Since 2018, the art, photography, film and design departments have exhibited work in local galleries; The Waterman and Redlees Galleries. For both exhibitions, it enabled the students to display their work to the community and network with those in related industries in the area.
In 2019-20, we have worked closely with Worple School this academic year and students and teachers have collaborated. For our performance of the Lion King in 2020, Worple students are part of the cast as well as being invited to watch matinee performances – as other primary schools in the area have also taken up invitations.
In 2019, the school was selected to be a Digital Schoolhouse. Only 56 schoolhouses exist in the country and Brentford School for Girls is proud to be part of the scheme. Digital Schoolhouse together with Nintendo UK, uses play-based learning to engage the next generation of pupils and teachers with the Computing curriculum. This has been introduced into the school and we intend to use our links with our local primary schools to deliver lessons and training where necessary.
The school is historically involved in developing international links and projects to widen the experiences for the girls.
We have been recognised in the past for our international work by the British Council and accredited for the International Schools Award. We continue to be a member of the British Council and are currently exploring partnerships with schools around the work.
