World Book Day 2025 was an unforgettable event at Brentford School for Girls (BSfG), as students and staff united to celebrate their shared love of reading in creative and inspiring ways.
During tutor time, students took part in literary-themed activities, including a Book Review Competition where they wrote reviews of their favourite books, highlighting what they loved and why others should read them. The best reviews will receive prizes for their creativity and persuasiveness. Meanwhile, a Staff Quiz Competition challenged teachers to test their literary knowledge, providing entertainment for students and showcasing the staff’s passion for reading.
At the start of each lesson, the literary excitement continued with short, recorded book recommendations from the school’s reading ambassadors. These students enthusiastically shared their favourite books, encouraging peers to explore new genres and authors.
The school itself was transformed into a literary wonderland, with students creatively dressing as their favourite characters. From Harry Potter to Katniss Everdeen, the hallways were filled with vibrant costumes that brought beloved stories to life. Many students explored the library’s eye-catching book displays for inspiration and exchanged ideas with friends. A best costume competition awarded winners with signed copies of ‘Crossing the Line’ by Tia Fisher, following her author visit earlier in the year.
One of the most memorable moments of the day was the outdoor costume catwalk, hosted by Elaika, one of the school’s new reading ambassadors. Students and staff confidently showcased their outfits as an enthusiastic audience cheered them on. The sunny weather added to the high-energy atmosphere, making the catwalk a highlight of the celebration.
The excitement carried into lunchtime, where the 6th form centre buzzed with activity. Students participated in quizzes, group games, and challenges to test their book knowledge in a lively, competitive setting. A photo booth was particularly popular, allowing students and staff to capture memories of the day in their creative costumes.
“This year’s celebration was truly special,” said Ms. Humphries, Assistant Headteacher. “The energy, creativity, and enthusiasm from both students and staff brought our community together in such a meaningful way. It’s wonderful to see the power of reading inspiring so much joy and connection.”
World Book Day 2025 at BSfG was a resounding success, demonstrating the magic of books in bringing people together. With incredible participation and creativity from the entire school community, the countdown to next year’s celebration has already begun.
