BSfG students explore the thrilling Knitting & Stitching Show

 

A-level Textiles students from Years 12 and 13 at Brentford Sixth Form embarked on a vibrant educational journey to the renowned ‘Knitting & Stitching Show’ at Alexandra Palace this November. This unique experience offered students the opportunity to dive into the dynamic world of textiles, guided by industry luminaries such as Cas Holmes and Heidi Rhodes.

The event served as a creative hub, where students had the chance to explore groundbreaking knitting and stitching techniques, discover the latest industry trends, and experiment with cutting-edge tools like advanced sewing machines. One excited student remarked, “I got to explore a lot of different techniques…it was fun!” highlighting the enthusiasm and inspiration sparked by the show.

The day began at Brentford Sixth Form, where students gathered in eager anticipation before embarking on their hour-and-a-half train journey to Alexandra Palace. This commute became a delightful opportunity for team bonding, setting the tone for a day filled with exploration and discovery.

Upon reaching the venue, students were free to wander and absorb the creativity surrounding them in groups. Unique clothing designs by graduate students captivated their attention, fueling their own creative sparks. A particularly memorable moment was a display showcasing vibrant, multi-colored yarn, utilising innovative dyeing techniques to produce stunning designs.

This trip was more than just an educational outing; it was a gateway to a wider world of possibilities, broadening students’ perspectives on the textile industry and inspiring future creative projects and career aspirations. For Brentford Sixth Form students, this experience was a glimpse into an inspiring future brimming with potential and innovation.
