Welcoming New Year 7 Cohort has never been smoother thanks to BSfG fantastic Transition Programme. Starting a new school can be a daunting task for anyone, particularly for young students transitioning from primary to secondary school. Ensuring our new Year 7 cohort settled into smoothly was of utmost priority for Brentford School for Girls school.

Their intensive transition programme welcomed their new students and provided them with opportunities to familiarize themselves with the school site, staff and fellow students. Their transition programme began with a welcoming speech from the Headteacher, who addressed both students and parents. After the welcoming speech, the students participated in a series of team-building and ice breaking activities that served as a platform for them to interact with their peers and overcome their initial nerves. They designed the activities to be fun and engaging while encouraging students to build relationships and develop teamwork skills. Their primary goal was to ensure the students felt supported and had a sense of belonging within their school community.

Throughout the transition programme, their students were introduced to key members of the pastoral team and were provided with opportunities to discuss any concerns or questions they had. This personalised approach underpins the ethos of their school community: they recognise every student is unique, and they value the importance of working with them and their families to ensure they feel supported and valued.

In addition to team-building activities, they provided the students with a comprehensive tour of the school site, including the dining hall, library, sports facilities, and classrooms. They emphasised the importance of punctuality and organisation to ensure their students understood their way around the school and what is expected of them.

Brentford School for Girls transition programme is just the beginning of their efforts to support their new students. They have planned a range of extracurricular activities and opportunities for their  students to get involved in throughout their time with them. These include House competitions, subject-specific enrichment activities, school productions and trips.

Brentford School for Girls believes that young students need to feel supported as they navigate the transition from primary to secondary school. Their transition programme aims to help students embrace the challenges that come with starting a new school and to ensure they feel valued and welcome within their school community.
