On 29th June, Brentford School for Girls opened their school gates to parents/carers and the local community to showcase wonderful artistic talents of students and artists in the local area.

The festival featured over 100 pieces of artwork in the art exhibition ranging from all year groups including pottery, textiles, photography and paintings.

Whilst the exhibition was the hub of the festival it was clear to see the talent within the school as people pursued the school site experiencing year 7 students performing Shakespeare followed by musical performances by students across the school varying in instruments and genre.

Another highlight was the wonderful Textiles show displaying some wonderful creations designed and sewn by the talented GCSE and A-level students.

One visitor to the arts festival commented: “I enjoyed the variety of things to see. They were all great and it was lovely to see such a range of talents represented.”

The festival this year gave a chance to see the Hip Hop dance group that have been working on choreography as part of The Royal Academy of Dance ‘Step into Dance’ progranme offered at the school. A spokesperson for the school said: “It was wonderful to see some of our newer students to the school beaming with confidence as they performed the choreography and received a well-deserved round of applause.”

With the Arts team’s commitment to showcasing future opportunities for students to develop these talents beyond their classrooms - the school welcomed 30 external visitors ranging from local artists, universities, businesses and clubs where the students and community can access the arts beyond Brentford.

One attendee said: “I loved the sense of community and positive energy was so lovely, and seeing all the teachers’ and kids’ enthusiasm was fab!” Whilst another parent commented: “I loved it. It was such a pleasure to see so many students involved and the many opportunities for them to show off their skills and creativity. I loved celebrating that with them.’’
