Brentford School for Girls are extremely proud to have taken part in the Rivers of the World festival for the second year. Last July we welcomed guidance and inspiration from Shona Watt as she hosted a workshop for our Year 9 GCSE Art group. We were enchanted by her references to international cultures, historic human relationships with rivers and the image of river deity. Taking inspiration from this, the students worked with new materials and techniques to build head dresses. Their process from research, design drawings to building showed great experimentation and their outcomes are now displayed in the Westwood building of our school.

The girls work was even professionally photographed by Ms Watt, and she has since digitally collaged the pieces into a digital art work that is now on show to the public.  The workshop was part of an international project that involved school around the world. We each completed our own projects that were digitally recorded and prepared for exhibition. The work is now grouped and shown together as a group show in the different countries that participated.  We were so proud that the Brentford School for Girls’ work was on show in London. It was an outdoor exhibition at the entrance of one of the world’s most celebrated art collections, The Tate Modern.
